It is with great sadness that I tell you all that our Safety Officer, Rob Cowley, died on Saturday night. Not many details are known yet, but I hope this message board thread will be used as a 'book on condolence', to remember Rob and everything he did for this Society.

thoughts go out to all the family - bit of a shock when Jim phoned me on Sunday morning with the news.

i am sure the Cliffe will provide a suitable send off and raise more than a glass or two of pernod.

Sad day. Not many characters around quite like Rob. Im not sure any one person could pull together everything he did for the Cliffe in the course of a year. Unsung hero, saved many a day, often wanting no recognition or thanks. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Couldn't agree more with everything already said.

I would like to add he was bloody good company on a golf course as I've found on several occasions while sharing a buggy with him on the Short Fuse Trophy.

He is the current holder of the "Bandit's Hat" at that event and gave everyone a good laugh for the reason he won it. That will be the memory that sticks in my mind.
Three cheers for Rob Cowley

Rob,

A tragically sad loss, you had a great sense of humour, always politically correct and a heart of gold. A hard worker and very generous.

Totally out of the blue, I'm still in shock. Thoughts are with your family.

You gave so much .....

To give so much, without reward, is a true gift that we will all miss. A heavy sadness and loss is felt and my thoughts go to Rob's family, friends and all that knew and respected him.

My regards

Rob was a Cliffe stalwart; he was the kind of guy who could be relied upon and would do anything he could to help. As well as all his tireless efforts helping the society (too much to mention) I also remember how hard he worked to help people after the floods in 2000; he helped people load skips with their flood polluted furniture and belongings and his sense of humour always brought a laugh.

Rob will be missed and my feelings go out to his family.

I knew Rob for over 30 years and could relate many stories of his humour and generosity both to Helen and myself personally and to so many other people and particularly the Society. Our thoughts go to Joyce and his family. I could not believe it when I was phoned with the news early on the Sunday morning. Let's have a great turnout on Wednesday and show our respect and raise a few glasses in the Dorset aftewards.
