Rookies for 2008?
Closed

Last year there were some issues around what rookies were and were not approved; some of the remains of my previous years supply appeared to have become banned. The committee had a clear idea of where the dividing line should be drawn and while I know what is well over the top, not all of us were aware of exact line that made up the seasons requirements when getting ready for the autumn. My own fault, should have studied my Clarion more, mea culpa, ignorance is no excuse, read the Fireworks Act 2003, guilty as charged etc etc, but genuine mistakes do happen!

Can someone give me a bit of clear, simple guidance on rookies for 2008 and a few hints as to where they can be obtained this year?

Has anyone given any thought to the successful Bang Barrels as used at Battel.  They were designed by the Battel H&S Officer Dave.  An upright oil drum mounted on wheels with the top but off, with a chicken wire layer a foot from the bottom on which you drop the firework.  The result is no flying debris and a beautiful deep thump bang which is very loud.  Can be painted in Society colours or to match group.

Have to say Tim, the day we have those will be a day I give up on Bonfire.

Aside from the fact that it's another concession to the "powers that be", I can't see they'd ever be practical in Lewes unless you had one in every rank!!!

As to your question Rod, plans are afoot at the moment to secure rookies that hopefully the committee will be happy with! Watch this space!!

Hi Rod,
If your stuck with the Spanish Long fused one's? then i'm happy to swap you a box of the Clay packed Blue one's, which i think are still o.k????? (the clay one's have no plastic bung, and just smoke alot)
Don't worry, i won't use them in Sussex! just assisting in my duty of taking them out of circulation!.....wink you all understand i'm sure????
Beside's,......I'm not aloud to let them off any more!!........Doctors orders!! otherwise i'm gonna go deaf!......That's unless i'm wearing Ear-defenders!, Safety Spec's, A Hi-Vis jacket & a Hard Hat!!!!
